A: For this assignment students were asked to use their findings from project 1 to take part in the community. They were asked to research a current debate taking place within their discourse community. The students needed to defend their position while also presenting an idea that refutes it. Their paper should include writing conventions from their discourse community as noted in project 1. Their audience is supposed to be a peer-reviewed journal of their choice but it needs to be within their field of study.
B: One of the biggest issues I had with project 2 was the formatting of my paper. This paper included an abstract, background, multiple topic sections, and a conclusion. I was having a hard time depicting which information went where, but following our workshop I gained more of an understanding. One thing I found easy was getting engaged with my paper. I have strong feelings about the topic I discussed which made the writing process enjoyable for me and made the assignment come easy. I found myself enjoying the research, planning, writing, and revising because of how deeply I'm engaged to the issue being discussed.
C: My professor gave me a late draft assessment on my project 2 submission. As noted from my professor I was struggling with transitioning smoothly from point to point. I could have done a better job so I went through my paper attempting to making it easier to reader and including transition word. I also was continuously making statements about quotes using the phrase, "this quote is saying..." which isn't conventional. I went through my paper and reworded my analysis following quotes. I used the "Academic Sentence Strategies" handout to improve how I explained quotations. I also revised my reference page because I thought it could be organized better.
D: One of the strong suits of my paper was using the conventions of my discourse community. Project 1 prepared me to use my discourse community's writing conventions and I'm happy to illustrate those findings. I believe I presented my position so effective that it could persuade my audience to agree with me. The formatting for this paper seems out of the ordinary and sometimes technology isn't our friend. I'm unaware if my paper is organized how, it should be but it keeps giving me issues when I attempted to straighten everything out or put headers at the top of each page.
