HROB 101 Management of Contemporary Organizations

Reflection on Instructional Change:

I leveraged one practice from Module 5. - Design activities and assignments to engage students in creating questions that elicit critical thinking. I used this for my undergraduate students. I encouraged students to come up with discussion questions that will engage the audience (fellow students) and encourage critical thinking. I encouraged them to come up with interesting open ended questions. I gave them instructions and waited for them to present their discussion questions after their presentation. I took these steps because coming up with discussion questions would help my students to look at issues from different perspectives and develop a more holistic understanding.

I received overwhelming positive response. I requested students to respond anonymously to how helpful they found the discussion questions both coming up with them and the use of these questions in the class post presentation. I have included a picture of some feedback I received below. Students discussed how it positively impacted their motivation, engagement and it also enhanced their critical thinking.

I benefited greatly from all the FLC activities. The idea of concept maps was new to me. Though I have not used in class yet, I plan to do so at sometime in the future. I love discussions and debate in class so for now I focused on Module 5 and discussion questions. I think they enhanced students critical thinking skills.

An Aha moment for me in my observe and analyze section was the different perspectives my colleagues had, I didn't even realize the value in that I had the instructions written as well for my students and presented it via Zoom. My colleagues appreciated that there were two ways the information was presented.

Though no change in syllabus as this was an activity, I plan to use this activity to enrich my syllabus in the future by possibly assigning points for the quality of the questions.

**Faculty Bio**
	Sargam Garg is an award-winning educator, scholar, and a poet. California State University, Sacramento has been her academic home since 2017. The fulcrum of her research is Strategic Human Resource Management (HRM), and she has received many grants for her work which includes the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation Research Grant. Currently she is on a mission to humanize management education through incorporating the arts, especially poetry. She believes this will create a kinder world. Recently she received the “Women of Influence” (Faculty category) award bestowed by California State University, Sacramento.
