HROB 101: The Management of Contemporary Organizations

Inclusion, Step-by-Step, MS Excel

Reflection on Instructional Change:

HROB 101 is an introduction level course to human resource management and organizational behavior. I have implemented the technique “Break directions into appropriate steps” from LL 2 Providing Clear Directions and Explanations. Specifically, I recorded a video with directions on how to use MS Excel. This practice helps students understand what they are asked to do. Hence, they are less likely to be overwhelmed by the activity and more likely to do well. This practice also helps me as the instructor to monitor students’ progress and intervene if students digress from their goal.

Students appear to be less overwhelmed and more confident in their ability to succeed in the assignment and the overall course. In addition, students ask more targeted questions and start earlier with assignments. They procrastinate less because their fear of failure is reduced.

In the ACUE course, the learning activities that most influenced the changes I made in my instruction were:

The Observe and Analyze Session showed me that videos are an excellent way to break directions into appropriate steps. However, a lot of details need to be considered to produce high-quality videos.
