Road to Success:

Taking Your Online Course to the Next Level!

MBA 201: Accounting

Reflection on Course Improvements:

  • I have been using Canvas for both my online and face-to-face courses, but I was not organizing the contents well from the learner's perspectives. I have to acknowledge that this is my first time learning very systemic approaches to teaching. QM template is a great tool that could help align my teaching objectives with learning activities, assessments, and tools. I learned the ways to present materials on Canvas more Online discussion was another way of learning! In addition, creating a module including an overview page helped me prepare for my Fall 2021 online courses.
  • In this course, I retook the role of a student and was able to understand the difficulties that my students might have experienced last semester. Sometimes, I had to self-learn some of the technology tools for homework within a limited time, and it wasn't smooth! It made me rethink how to make my teaching more effective and approachable. I plan to finish my course maps and learn more technical tools and skills, using the resources learned from this course.
  • To improve students' accessibility to the course, I am planning to check whether my course contents meet the UDL guidelines and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. In particular, I am thinking about caption videos and transcribe audio content for my lecture videos.

Hello everyone.

I started my career in accounting with Ernst & Young in Chicago as an auditor after I got my master’s degree in accounting from Indiana University. Later, I joined LG electronics Headquarters in Seoul, Korea where I worked on corporate finance, global accounting and consolidation, and internal audit as a manager. Also, I worked for the Korean Accounting
Standards Board, the accounting standards-setting body in Korea. At the KASB, I formulated/interpreted GAAP, researched IFRS adoption and other contemporary accounting issues, and provided accounting standard education to the general public. I completed my Ph.D. in accounting with a minor in finance at the University of Utah, where I started my teaching in accounting. My teaching interests encompass several accounting areas: financial accounting, governmental
and not-for-profit accounting, and International Financial Accounting Standards.
