Peer Network Online Intercultural Competence Activity
The intercultural competence activity I co-facilitated explored visual communication patterns and allowed participants to express their cultural identity by learning about and exploring communication styles in different cultures. The activity used visual examples of communication to describe patterns (e.g. a curved line meandering from point to point to get to the conclusion, to demonstrate a less direct communication style and three lines coming together in a common point to show a more direct communication pattern). The challenge of the activity was medium and the activity might be best conducted at an icebreaker or ongoing training. It's important to provide text alternatives/auditory descriptions for those with visual impairments. We modified the activity to be online using shared documents (Google Docs) and breakout rooms in Zoom.
