Tips for Using Sac State Email

Inbox Views

By default, when you first access your Sac State Email, it will display in "Focused" view where all messages coming from Sac State are placed under a "focused tab". This means that any messages that come from non-sac state accounts e.g. shopping, websites etc will be placed under an "Other" Tab which you can access at any time by clicking on the "Other" tab.

How to Adjust Settings and Notifications

  1. Open the Outlook Web App.
  2. Click the Settings button at top right of screen. The button looks like a gear button.
  3. The Settings panel will appear to the right of page. Click the "View all Outlook Settings" link at the bottom of that panel. The Settings window displays. On this window you can choose to edit general settings which include language, appearance, notifications etc or go to specific Mail, calendar and People Settings.
  4. Let's take a look at how to adjust Notifications in this example. Start by clicking the "General" tab on the left menu and then select "Notifications".
  5. Under the In-App Notification section you have the option to get notifications for new messages and reminders and to have outlook play a sound when a new message arrives and when you receive reminders. Select the checkboxes next to the types of notifications you prefer.
  6. Select "Send me Desktop Notifications" if you want to see notifications on your desktop when you browser is minimized.

Please note:  Microsoft doesn’t let Outlook launch notifications when it isn’t actively running, so you’ll have to keep the tab open to make use of these options.

Email Size and Storage Limits

Your Sac State email has a limit of 100GB which is plenty of space to receive and send messages. As a best practice to keep your email organized, delete any messages you no longer need and/or clear out your Junk and deleted folders regularly.
