Creating Screencapture Presentations
Screencasting Guides
Overview
To create a screencapture presentation, you will need to learn the basics of recording a portion of your computer screen and sharing the recording that you captured. If you created slides for your screencapture presentation, such as in Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote, the recording and sharing process might look slightly different.
We'll offer you some tips on how to engage in the recording and sharing process so that you can focus on making the best presentation possible.
How to Record a Presentation on Your Screen
First, you'll want to select the tool that you'll want to use for recording your screen. If you anticipate that you might need technical help with recording your screen, you might want to choose one of the following tools that we support here at Sac State:
- Microsoft PowerPoint Links to an external site.
- Snagit Links to an external site.
- Zoom Links to an external site.
If you are a Mac user, there are some other tools that you can use for recording and creating screencapture presentations:
How to Export and Share Your Presentation Recording
When you have finished recording your presentation, you'll need to share your presentation file with your instructor. Here are some guides on how to do that, depending on which tool you've chosen:
PowerPoint
When you have finished your recording, you will have the option to "Save As..." in a file form of your choice. We suggest saving your file as an MP4 file so that it is an easily recognizable file form.
Your instructor likely will have a place in Canvas for you to submit an MP4 file. If you are unsure where you are supposed to share this file, contact your instructor to see what their preference is.
Snagit
Check out Snagit's Guide on Sharing Media Links to an external site.. This guide will walk you through the steps for making your Snagit recording visible to your instructor and your peers.
