EEE 174/CpE 185: Introduction to Microprocessors - Computer Interfacing

I was able to redesign my remote learning activities through posting new accessory videos which assisted students learning asynchronously. While we did have a few videos previously, additional videos were added to help students navigate the tools required for completing the x86 assembly based lab. In addition, Zoom recordings were now accessible for labs as well as lecture to provide students with an easy way to review any concepts discussed in lab.

During the STEM SideCar meeting sessions, I explored a few interesting online tools. While most tools could be pulled up through a virtual machine on my end and shown directly to students, I did start using Microsoft Whiteboard to jot down notes or work through lab exercises. This tool was very user-friendly to me, and it allowed me to write down anything like I would on a whiteboard.

One immediate concern when planning for this semester was providing the hardware my students needed in this new environment. I joined the PIVOT program and created a PIVOT parts kit that included all of the required parts. We noticed that many parts online were almost sold out, which added a degree of uncertainty for our semester projects. By securing these hardware parts early we were able to provide students, regardless of financial stability, with immediate access to the required hardware material needed to successfully complete the labs.

Faculty Biography

Hi there! I teach EEE 174/CpE 185 - Introduction to Microprocessors and Computer Interfacing. This lab reinforces the lecture component for this class and covers the fundamentals of microprocessors course, which review projects that utilize x86 assembly, python and C/C++.

I also like to swim, read, and play the trumpet/guitar in my spare time!
