Instructional Materials Accessibility Resources
What are Instructional Materials?
Instructional materials are considered accessible if they have been designed and structured to be used effectively by all students including students with disabilities. For people with disabilities, content must be accessed effectively by assistive technology devices and software in order to be considered accessible. Instructional materials can be in one or all of these formats:
- Documents: PDF, Word, PowerPoint etc.
- All Canvas Course Content
- Faculty Websites
- Videos and Audio Files

Request Document Remediation
Remediation is the process where our team reviews electronic based instructional materials such as PDF’s, PowerPoint Presentations, Word documents, and Canvas page content, against web content accessibility guidelines to ensure that these materials meet all applicable accessibility standards. If materials do not meet standards, then we edit those materials within the applications they were created e.g., Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat or Canvas by use of built-in tools in authoring applications to fix all accessibility issues.
If you need assistance with document remediation, please submit the Instructional Materials Remediation Request. Remediation turnaround time depends on project length and/or complexity. Upon submitting your request, a Universal Design for Learning Program staff member will contact you to develop a timeline of delivery based on the accessibility assessment of your course and a file remediation plan. This process may involve engaging with our team regarding questions about the course content and assisting the team in remediation tasks for content that is contextualized in the subject matter (such as alt descriptions of images, charts, graphs). Learn more about Document Remediation Services.
Please note: These services should not be used to replace any immediate accommodation needs/services for a student enrolled in your course. If you have a student enrolled in your course that has an immediate accommodation need, please contact the office of Disability Access Center DAC directly.
Request Video Captioning
Do you have a list of YouTube videos you are using for your course or other video content you are not able to upload to your own Panopto account to obtain captions? Use the Video Captioning Request to submit your request.
