Course Description

This course will go over basic concepts and strategies to design accessible MS Word documents for use in an online environment such as a learning management system, Canvas, or website. We will cover: 

  • Styles and Formatting for document structure,
  • Alternative Text for Images,
  • Descriptive Labels for Links,
  • Simple Tables with Table Headers that are identified,
  • Reviewing documents with Assistive Technology and built in Accessibility Checkers
  • Planning for alternate formats to make documents available.

Course Objectives

  • Identify the features in a Word document that make it accessible.
  • Understand how document structure can be achieved via tools/options available in MS Word.
  • Design documents that contain structure and other accessibility elements.
  • Assess your documents for accessibility and remediate as needed.
