Motivation for Preparing My Course for Quality Matters Internal Review
I know how much putting a course through a review process like this can benefit students. I did this for my courses that I teach at a local community colleges and it improved my pass rates and drop rates. The students also tell me they appreciate how organized the courses are. It really is about getting a course to be the best version of itself to benefit the students.
Highlighted QM Essential Standards Addressed in Course
- Learning Objectives (Standard 2)
These provide students with measurable course-level AND module-level learning objectives that describe what they will be expected to achieve in the course.- Added these to assignments.
- Learner Support (Standard 7)
Students are provided with information on how to access the various university support services, including technical support, student support, and academic support.- Added learner support to individual assignments so it was easier for students to find.
- Accessibility and Usability (Standard 8)
The course environment incorporates ADA standards and conforms with university policy regarding accessibility.
- I made sure my course had 99% accessibility and will get it to 100% when I'm less burnt out.
Evidence of QM Standards

Plan for Pathway toward QM Certification
I have submitted this course to Quality Matters for internal review already. The piece I struggled with the most was coming up with course and module objectives that were measurable and didn't give away too much for the quizzes. I'm hoping to get more help on that. The course map helped me out the most. I feel pretty comfortable with everything else.
I was born and raised in the Central Valley of California with two parents in the veterinary profession. I grew up with lots of animals and always thought I was going to be a veterinarian. I started my undergraduate degree as a biology major at University of California, Santa Cruz and had the opportunity to do a family trip to New Zealand in the middle of my sophomore year. I did a leave of absence and took classes at Massey University. I ended up taking two science classes that were way too advanced and thought I wasn't good at science so I switched over to an International Business degree. I even fully transferred and finished my degree there. New Zealand is amazing and will remain a second home for me. Upon graduating I went to work in the corporate business world and hated it. I decided to give science another try and enrolled in classes at my local community college. I was able to take a course on Nutrition and was hooked. I applied to graduate school to get a masters from UC Davis. Once I was in the program I thought I might as well get a Ph.D. Fast forward to 4 years later and I finished up my postdoc doing nutrition research on trigeminal nerve pain in horses. We found that magnesium and boron supplementation helped alleviate nerve pain by 64% and are hoping some of this information could help humans with trigeminal neuralgia. I currently teach at several local community colleges and California State University, Sacramento. |
