Reflection on Instructional Change:

Practice chosen from ACUE: Use of Rubrics

I incorporated the usage of rubrics into my course in order to improve transparency in grading and to provide students with helpful information about what constitutes a successful submission. Furthermore, the course project is implemented by using industry standard circuit simulation software. Based on the rubric, the students understand what constitutes a good project work and the expectations for the deliverable - which includes a project report.

The students participate in designing a final course project, which is broken into smaller deliverables throughout the semester. The created rubric details what technical and professional communication aspects are expected in the final deliverable. Compared to the previous offering of the course which did not include a rubric, the current offering made the submission process very transparent to the students and as a result I noticed a significant improvement in the quality of reports submitted by the students.

The "Observe and Analyze" synchronous along with other peers in the Engineering discipline was very helpful. In my course, the students focused on learning an industry standard software tool called "Cadence Virtuoso". Experience with this tool enhances students' employability and workplace skills related to Electronic Design Automation or EDA for Electrical and Computer Engineering students. In the Observe and Analyze session, I got to discuss my methods and learn from the best practices that are adopted by my colleagues in Engineering.

Particularly, the suggestion to chunk the entire project into multiple smaller deliverables that are spread out throughout the entire semester was helpful.

**Faculty Bio**
	I am Praveen, an Assistant Professor in EEE at Sacramento State. I received my PhD from Old Dominion University, VA and MS from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I am passionate about teaching Electronics courses. I enjoy studying Indian philosophical literature like Bhagavad Gita. I enjoy self help genre as well and love the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
